About the event
With this webinar we aim to reach divers, underwater enthusiasts and early career biology students and researchers. We will cover a broad spectrum of topics related to coral reefs, sustainable fishing and marine conservation. You don't need to be a scientist to join but we rather want to bring science to the public. The first sessions will be presented by our Marine Biologist, Dr. Mareike Huhn, but we highly encourage participants with a biology, conservation or oceanography background to become presenters, too. We will reward you with a certificate for your repeated attendance or active involvement (e.g. as presenter).
In the first session on Feb 27th 2021, we will present the fascinating topic of coral spawning and the underlying synchronisation patterns and cues. We will talk about two papers published in 2020 and 2021:
Gouezo M, Doropoulos C, Fabricius K, Olsudong D, Nestor V, Kurihara H, Golbuu Y & Harrison P (2020) Multispecific coral spawning events and extended breeding periods on an equatorial reef. Coral Reefs, 39: 1107-1123, https://doi.org/10.1007/s00338-020-01941-7
Baird AH et al. (2021) An Indo-Pacific coral spawning database. Scientific Data, 8:35, https://doi.org/10.1038/s41597-020-00793-8
